Professor Katie Aafjes-van Doorn

About Me

My career in Clinical Psychology started with a MSc in Clinical Psychology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands, followed by a MSc in Psychological Research, and a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. I completed my research postdoc at Adelphi University, New York and became Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University, New York. In 2023 I got tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor. During Fall 2023 I spent my sabbatical as Visiting Associate Professor at NYU Shanghai. I transitioned to a permanent Associate Professor position at NYU Shanghai in 2024. Meanwhile, I was promoted to Area Head of Social Sciences at NYU Shanghai, leading a team of 32 tenure-track and contract faculty. I also lead the AI for Social Good cluster within the Frontiers Science Center of Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, and am an active member of the Center for Global Health Equity.

 

My unwavering commitment to the field of Clinical Psychology has garnered international recognition, evidenced by over 100 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored books, and regular presentations at international conferences. I am registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist in the UK and am also a licensed psychologist in New York, USA. For the past six years, I have been Associate Editor for the journal Clinical Psychology: Science & Practice . I am also the co-founder and Director of Assessments at Deliberate AI, a technology company pioneering ambient multimodal AI for mental health.
